New German Navy Dress Jacket
This is a navy blue uniform jacket from the former East German Navy, probably from the marine unit of the Border Guards (probably the reason for the green piping on the collar). The shade of navy is slightly more blue (or less black) than the corresponding American shade. The fabric is middle weight. A double-breasted sack coat (no vent in the back), it has ten gold anchor buttons arranged in the Finnish and German style. The jacket also has small shoulder loops and provision for adding small buttons, both used for attaching German-style shoulder marks.
This coat has two outside flapped pockets as well as a handkerchief pocket, and two inner breast pockets which both button closed. There is also a mysterious bellows pocket inside near the hem on the right side of the jacket. My TV remote fits into it nicely, but this is probably not its intended purpose. (I have no clue what it is for.) Unlike some other East German jackets, this has no built-in hangar loop for a dress dirk.
In summary, an interesting uniform jacket at a very favorable price. In addition, Swiss Link makes available a very economical shipping option (Fed Ex ground) which is also quite quick.

This is a nicely made jacket, sized right (got an XL -- easily buttons without sucking in stomach :-) ), and the cloth is relatively light. It came in brand-new condition as advertised. An excellent value!
