Pulled from Italian depot stock and never fielded. Each set includes all three pieces:
- Field shirt — Italia patch on the left sleeve, rank stars on the collar, button front and button cuffs, multiple cargo pockets
- BDU trousers — cargo pockets, reinforced knees, elastic cuffs
- Matching cap — same Roma 90 woodland pattern, snapback closure
Sizing: Italian military uniforms use continental numeric sizing (52, 54, 56, 58) paired with a length designation. The number reflects the garment's chest sizing; Regular, Long, and X-Long refer to sleeve and inseam length, not girth. Italian cuts run long and lean through the body, so most buyers size up from their usual US letter size.
Current stock is concentrated in X-Large and 2X-Large. Smaller sizes are limited to a handful of sets. Order the size listed rather than converting from a US chart, and if you're between options, take the longer length — these can be hemmed but not extended.
Condition: Unissued. Sets are new and unworn, though they have been in depot storage for years — expect fold creases and the occasional storage mark. Shade can vary slightly between production lots, which is normal for surplus of this era and part of what distinguishes genuine issue from reproduction.
Origin of Camouflage
Italian Mimetico (Roma 90)
The Italian Mimetico Roma 90 camouflage, often called “Roma-90 Woodland,” was introduced in the early 1990s as a modernization of Italy’s field uniforms and a bridge between the older Telo Mimetico patterns and the later Vegetato. Inspired by the U.S. M81 Woodland but tuned for Mediterranean terrain, it featured bold green, brown, and black shapes on a tan-olive base, giving it a higher-contrast look distinctively Italian.
Roma-90 became standard issue across the Italian Army through the 1990s, appearing on field jackets, airborne two-piece suits, and flak vests during peacekeeping and NATO deployments in the Balkans and beyond. It was officially phased out after Vegetato was adopted in 2004, but remained in service for years afterward on depot stockpiles. Complete unissued sets like this one are what those stockpiles are now releasing, and they are the version collectors look for.
