A three-piece field canteen from a country that still built things to last.
Genuine Romanian military issue. One quart aluminum canteen, a nesting aluminum cup with a folding butterfly handle, and a wool felt cover that snaps closed over the whole thing. Black bakelite screw cap on a short leather tether so it does not go missing when the canteen is open. Leather retaining strap that pulls the cup down to the cover and locks the kit together for a march.
Post-war Romanian production, unissued or lightly issued surplus. Every piece is real.

Aluminum Body
Wool Felt Cover
Three parts. One kit.
The aluminum canteen holds the water. The cup nests over the neck and drops into the fire when you need it to. The wool cover carries them both, insulates the water from morning frost and afternoon sun, and quiets the whole assembly so it does not clatter when you move. Nothing here is decorative. Every part carries its own job.
Wool cover, brass snaps.
The cover is olive wool felt, stitched to a canvas backer and closed with a row of brass snap studs down the back seam. Wool insulates warm water in the cold and cool water in the heat. Wet wool does not stink and does not grow slime the way a synthetic pouch does.
Snap it around the canteen, thread your belt through the woven olive loop, and the water rides the hip without noise.
Every piece does a job.
None of this was designed for a display case. It was designed for a road march and a canteen half-cup of hot soup at the end of it.
Butterfly-handle cup.
Aluminum cup with a folding wire handle that clamps flat for storage and swings out to hold the cup over a small fire, a camp stove, or a candle. Nests inside the wool cover.
Tethered bakelite cap.
A black bakelite screw cap on a short leather tether. The cap threads down onto the aluminum neck and stays with the canteen when it is open, so nothing walks off in the dark.
Leather retaining strap.
A full-length leather strap runs the seam of the cover, buckles through a woven olive belt loop, and pulls the cup down onto the canteen so the whole kit rides quiet on the hip.
Real surplus, honestly graded.
These are pulled from Romanian military stocks. Issued examples show honest field wear: light scuffs on the aluminum, patina on the leather, a softened nap on the wool. Some may be missing a small part, such as a spare snap or a keeper clip. The canteen itself, the cup, and the cover are always there.
If we run into a piece that is not usable as a canteen, we set it aside. What ships is complete and ready to fill.
