Dutch Woodland DPM Alice Binocular Pouch | Issued
This is the Dutch Military Woodland DPM ALICE Binocular Pouch, the predecessor to the MOLLE version. While the storage compartment is nearly identical, the key difference is how it attaches to your gear.
The Basics
- Attachment System: Uses the classic ALICE (All-Purpose Lightweight Individual Carrying Equipment) metal clips. These are designed to slide over a standard 2.25" military web belt or attach to the horizontal webbing found on older rucksacks and vests.
- Material: Heavy-duty, water-resistant Cordura nylon in the Dutch Woodland DPM pattern.
- Design: This is a "box-style" pouch with a reinforced, semi-rigid structure. This prevents the pouch from collapsing when empty and provides a layer of crush protection for optics.
- Closure: Features a large top flap with a heavy-duty plastic quick-release buckle.
What to Expect
- Internal Protection: These are often lined with a smooth, soft material or light padding to protect binocular lenses and housings from scratches and impact.
- Nostalgic/Rugged: ALICE gear is favored by many for its "bombproof" simplicity. There are no zippers to snag or break, and the metal clips stay securely attached even during heavy activity.
- Multi-Purpose: Beyond binoculars, this is an excellent "utility" size. It is commonly used to hold:
- Digital rangefinders or GPS units.
- A standard "10 essentials" survival kit.
- Multiple boxes of ammunition or small tools.
- Condition: As an "Issued" item, expect some "salty" military character—light scuffs on the plastic buckle, minor fading of the camouflage, and possibly the original soldier's name or unit number on the tag.
The Main Difference (ALICE vs. MOLLE)
If you are deciding between this and the MOLLE version:
- Choose this (ALICE) if you plan to wear it on a standard leather or nylon belt, or if you have an older ALICE-style pack.
- Choose the MOLLE version if you have a modern backpack or tactical vest with the horizontal rows of nylon webbing (PALS).
Quick Tip: If the metal ALICE clips are too noisy or uncomfortable for your belt, they can be easily removed, and the wide fabric loop on the back can be used to slide a belt through directly.
