Italian Vegetato ACU Shirt | Issued
This authentic Italian Army ACU Ripstop Vegetato Shirt is truly impressive! It features a front button closure and two chest pockets with vertical zippers on the sides. There's also a button flap near the left chest pocket, perfect for displaying ranks and insignia. The cuffs are adjustable with Velcro, and the elbows are reinforced with what looks like Cordura nylon patches, which have Velcro closures at the top for adding elbow protectors. Above the elbow patches, each arm has a pocket with vertical zipper closures and Velcro on the exterior for displaying patches. Inside on the left side, there’s a pocket with a vertical Velcro closure. The shirt also has adjustable waist straps for a snug fit, Velcro adjustments on the collar, and mesh-vented armpits for breathability. A unique touch: all buttons and Velcro have a camo pattern that seamlessly blends with the shirt. It doesn’t get much better than this!
Please note that these parkas have been issued, though they remain in good condition.
Origin of Camouflage
Italian Vegetato
Introduced in 2004, the Italian Mimetico Vegetata camouflage—better known as Vegetato—marked Italy’s shift into a fully modernized combat uniform system. Replacing earlier patterns, it quickly became the standard across the Italian Army, Air Force, and special forces, proving effective in Mediterranean woodland and scrub terrain. The distinctive four-color mix of browns, greens, and khaki gave Italian troops a unique identity while holding its own against NATO counterparts.
The Vegetato parka saw extensive service in both home defense and overseas deployments, from Afghanistan to Libya, and continues to represent the Italian Armed Forces’ modern era. Beyond the battlefield, surplus Vegetato gear remains highly sought after for its striking camouflage, cultural significance, and status as a symbol of Italy’s post-Cold War military modernization.
